Abstract The prospects for testing CPT invariance and the weak equivalence principle (WEP) for antimatter with spectroscopic measurements on antihydrogen are discussed. The potential precisions of these tests are compared with those from other measurements. The arguments involving energy conservation, the behaviour of neutral kaons in a gravitational field and the equivalence principle for antiparticles are reviewed in detail.
