A novel terahertz (THz) top hat loaded photomixer antenna is proposed in order to enhance the output power. This device consists of trapezoidal nano-electrodes in the photomixer part and a full wavelength dipole loaded with planar hat loads in the antenna part. Considering the effect of the new photomixer configuration on the antenna source resistance, a new top hat loaded antenna with high input resistance and an enhanced impedance matching is designed. The input resistance of the device is increased more than six times as compared to a full wavelength dipole antenna which yields a significant improvement in matching efficiency. This leads to a large improvement in the radiated THz power from the device.
