Molecular detection on relation between AZF microdeletions and male infertility

Objective:To evaluate the relationship between Y chromosome azoospermia factor(AZF) microdeletion and idiopathic azoospermia / oligospermia in males.Methods:The three sites including SY84,SY127,SY254 and ZFX/ZFY regions of Y chromosome in 62 cases of idiopathic azoospermia and oligozoospermia were detected by STS-PCR.Results: Microdeletions were detected in 20.97%(13/62) infertile men with idiopathic azoospermia or oligozoo spermia.Which 9 cases(22.5%) were found in 40 azoospermic patients and 4 cases(18.18%) were found in 22 oligozoospermic patients.Conclusion:The microdeletion of AZF is a major cause of idiopathic azoospermia and oligozoospermia leading to male infertility.It is necessary to carry out the routine screening of Y chromosome microdeletion to the idiopathic azoospermia/oligoseprmia patients.
