New type of rosin emulsion, stabilized with a synthetic anionic polymer, recently came into the market. The new rosin emulsion shows better mechanical, chemical (dilution with hard water), and freeze-thaw stability, better re-dispersibility of dried emulsion, less foaming in paper making system, and better sizing efficiency than conventional ones, which are stabilized with anionic low-molecular-weight surfactant. In this article, the performances of this rosin emulsion were introduced and the protectivity of the stabilizers are also discussed.
