Objective To evaluate the impact of intra-aortic balloon pump(IABP) on cardiogenic shock complicating acute myocardial infarction. Methods A total of 16 patients with acute myocardial infarction complicated by cardiogenic shock were treated with intra-aortic balloon pump(IABP).The impact of IABP was assessed. Results Stabilized hemodynamics were obtained in all patients,of which ten patients received percutaneous coronary intervention.11 patients survived and 5 died. The survival rate was 68.8%.Conclusion IABP is effective to stabilize hemodynamics and improve survival in patients with acute myocardial infarction complicated by cardiogenic shock.
