摘要
The role of electrical energy storage for application to power systems is presented. The development of electrical power networks is dependent on engineering and technical innovation, to optimise the construction, deployment, and operation of electricity systems. Electrical energy storage may be used as a means to control frequency and balance the energy requirements of AC electrical systems. The move towards renewable energy production, which derives from the need to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and reduce emissions of CO 2, places additional demands on the operation of the power system. Other factors, such as the move towards electric vehicles, place additional and substantial demands on the operation of the power system. This increases the need for controlling frequency and balancing energy and offers increased opportunities for the deployment of electrical energy storage. Flow batteries are a suitable electrical energy storage technology for many applications and compare favourably with other energy storage technologies.
