Cerebral venous sinus thrombosis and traumatic brain injury

We read with great interest the recent systematic review by Alghamdi et al. [1] on cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST) in closed head injury. The authors observe that only single, retrospective case reports are available regarding this patient cohort; their review identified 25 articles documenting 34 individual case reports. We note that the literature on CVST in traumatic brain injury (TBI) with skull fracture is similarly lacking in prospectively acquired data; a recent meta-analysis [2] identified 13 institutional small series which were again limited to retrospective data only.
