Role of mesenchymal and other stem cell therapy in intestinal diseases

The traditional treatment of intestinal diseases is through surgery and medication, but it often produces obvious side effects and complications. Mesenchymal and other stem cells have strong proliferation ability, multidirectional differentiation potential, and the function of locating to and repairing of damaged tissues. Under certain conditions, they can differentiate into a certain type of adult stem cells or horizontally differentiate into a variety of tissue cells, which has become a new hot spot in cell transplantation therapy. Experiments have demonstrated the efficacy of mesenchymal and other stem cell therapies based on immune regulation and epithelial remodeling promotion in the treatment of various intestinal diseases and their complications. Here, we combine the current application research of different stem cells, the pathogenesis, and treatment status of various intestinal diseases to review the research progress of mesenchymal and other stem cells in the treatment of intestinal diseases.
