Barrow Treasure, in Fact, Tradition, and Legislation

THE first part of this study comprises a review of the evidence for the use of barrows as repositories for coin-hoards and other treasure, especially in Britain. The second part comprises a study of the various traditions of treasure concealed in barrows. The third is concerned with the influence that belief in barrow treasure exerted in the formulation of Treasure Trove legislation in Scandinavia and Britain.
