In automobile industry, structural optimization related to crashworthiness and energy absorption capability is of great importance, which involves many parameters of material and structure.Conventional design, crash simulation and experiment can merely improve crashworthiness to some extent, but cannot achieve optimal performance in general.A new optimization methodology—Response Surface methodology, which develops in recent years worldwide,is adopted to study thin-walled structural optimization of crashworthiness combined with conventional optimization methods and nonlinear finite element program.Optimization results indicate that this method has high accuracy and validity.
