Editor—Anaesthetists have searched for methods to predict difficult airways, but most methods are inaccurate.1–3 Current airway assessment methods focus mainly on anatomical factors. In a landmark study on airway assessment, Nørskov and colleagues4 found that 93% of difficult airways are still unanticipated, and only 25% are predicted correctly. This can lead to complications, and a better approach is needed. A novel application-based airway assessment and risk stratification method could lead to a reduction in the number of unanticipated airway management problems and therefore complications.
