Nonpharmacologic treatments include a wide range of interventions such as surgery, technical operations, rehabilitation, behavioral therapy, psychotherapy, and medical devices. To overcome the inadequate reporting for studies of nonpharmacologic treatments, the CONsolidated Standards Of Reporting Trials (CONSORT) group developed an extension of the CONSORT Statement for nonpharmacologic treatments. This chapter discusses the extension in relation to the recently updated CONSORT Statement. The extension of the CONSORT Statement for nonpharmacologic treatments provides guidance for reporting the results of randomized controlled trials assessing nonpharmacologic treatments. The CONSORT extension should be used by authors when reporting results of trials assessing nonpharmacologic treatments and by editors and reviewers when evaluating such manuscripts. The CONSORT extension is designed to improve the transparency of reporting randomized nonpharmacologic trials.
