The thermal decomposition mechanism and kinetics of the plastic heat-stability agent methyltin mercaptide were investigated by using non-isothermal TG-DTG analysis in a stream of nitrogen at different heating rates. The non-isothermal kinetic data were analyzed by using the Kissinger,Flynn-Wall-Ozawa,Achar,Coats-Redfem and Freemarr-Carroll methods. The mechanism function and kinetic parameters of the thermal decomposition were obtained. The most probable kinetics function of the thermal decomposition is the function with D1 parabola power, and the corresponding mechanism follows the one-dimensional diffusion theorem. The apparent activation energy and the preexponential factor are 105.0 kJ/mol and 9.65×109 s-1respectively.The lifetime is deduced by isothermal TG analysis as the weight-loss is 5%,10% and 15%,respectively.
