Efficiency Analysis of the Turkish Red Crescent between 2012 and 2014

Like businesses with commercial purposes, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), such as the Red Cross and the Red Crescent, should also be in a constant search for more funds to provide help for more people. Otherwise, they will, in the long term, either shut down or start operating inefficiently, which is not sustainable. Therefore, NGOs also must work efficiently, and should check their performances by going through efficiency analyses at regular intervals to ensure sustainability. They should take the necessary structural and financial precautions based on the results provided by these performance analyses. In this study, the efficiency of the Turkish Red Crescent Society (TRC), founded in1868, was measured by an integrated model combining various methods such as Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA), Efficiency Analysis Technique with Output Satisficing (EATWOS), and the Competitiveness Operational Rating (OCRA). The comparison of the results provided by these methods indicated that TRC did not show a high performance in 2012 while the efficiency was found to be better in 2013 and 2014.
