Brain–spine interfaces to reverse paralysis

Abstract Brain-spine interfaces that link cortical signals to the modulation of spinal circuits with epidural electrical stimulation can restore voluntary control of leg and arm movements after paralysis. Fully implantable recording and stimulation platforms combined with reliable and practical decoding environments remain the key challenges to overcome before deploying these interfaces in humans.
