Industrial-level ammonia electroproduction from nitrate is significant for modern society but remains a challenge. In this issue of Chem Catalysis, Shao and co-workers report an economically feasible electrochemical system of cathodic nitrate reduction coupled with anodic glycerol oxidation using a bifunctional carbon nanosheet@CoP catalyst, which decouples ∗H generation and NOX− hydrogenation at different sites.
