The changes in microbial community structure of the Spiral Up-Flow Reactor(SURF) during its function recovery were analyzed by ERIC-PCR fingerprinting. The results indicateed that the microbial community structure changed after a pause of 10 days and at the beginning of re-operation of SURF,and the efficiency of TN and TP removal increased gradually. In a short time, the functional microbial community was reestablished, the microbial community structure reached a stable state, and the reactor began to work steadily. The microbial community structure showed a highly diversified distribution when the reactor worked steadily and the predominant bacteria were obvious.Different functional microbial communities were observed in the staedily operating SUFR under normal and low temperature circumstances.
