By FRANCE, RAYMOND CHARLES Source Colorado State University Published 1980 Indexed 2023-05-23 Document Type Dissertation/Thesis Abstract The physiology and metabolism of the nitrogen relations of pine ectomycorrhizae were investigated. Studies were conducted with individual components of the symbiotic association and whole ectomycorrhizae. Ammonium-nitrogen was the preferred form for the pure culture growth and development of mycelium of Pisolithus tinctorius, Cenococcum graniforme and Thelephora terrestris. Nitrate-nitrogen provided as good a source as ammonium-nitrogen for the growth of Suillus granulatus. Nitrogen source exerted little effect on the growth and development patterns of Pinus ponderosa primary lateral root systems. Lateral root formation and elongation exhibited multiphasic growth patterns, which corresponded to specific periods of various stages of root growth. |
