摘要
Automated scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis of particle populations associated with atmospheric particles has evolved from an exploratory research tool to a mature analytical technology that can now be considered integral to the characterization of atmospheric particulate matter. The ability to investigate air masses based on the morphology and composition of thousands of individual particles provides environmental scientists with detailed information on particle characteristics which can be used to identify sources of particulate matter and their impact on the environment. This chapter provides an overview of the evolution of automated SEM and its applications from an atmospheric particle analysis perspective.
