Borosilicate glasses are one of the most important inorganic glass systems owing to a wide applications. These applications originate from the unique properties of borosilicate glasses such as low thermal expansion, high mechanical strength and high chemical durability. These properties thanks to special glass structure. This article reviews both the basic knowledge and current understanding of structure, topology and properties of borosilicate glasses by both experimental characterizations and MD simulations. The article introduces some recent efforts in property prediction realized by both topological model and MD simulations. Finally, the application fields of borosilicate glasses are summarized.
