Studies on Anti-inflammatory Constituents of Leucas Mollissima WALL. var. Chinensis Benth

Eight known compounds –oleanolic acid 3-acetate (1), apigenin (2), ap-igenin-7-O-β-D- (6”-p-coumaroyl)glucoside (3), cirsimaritin (5,4’-dihy droxy-6,7-dimethoxyflavone) (4), mixture of β-sitosterol (5) and stigmasterol (6), and mixture of β-sitosterol-3-O-β-D-glucoside (7) and stigmasterol-3-O-β-D-glucoside (8) were isolated from the n-hexane, chloroform and ethyl acetate fractions of the methanolic extract of the whole herbs of Leucas mollissima WALL.var. chinensis BENTH.(Labiatae). These compounds are isolated for the first time from this plant. Among these, compound 2 exhibited potent anti-inflammatory activity responsible for the anti-inflammatory activity of the folk medicine. In the present paper, the revised assignments of the 13C NMR spectra of compounds 2,3 and 4 are also reported.
