20812 Effects of alcohol blended fuels on combustion characteristics for small diesel engine

Alcohol fuel derived from biomass is attracted attention as an alternative fuel. In this study, in order to obtain the essential data for practical use of biofuels, experiments have been carried out to examine the influence of alcohol blended fuels on combustion characteristics for small diesel engine. The main conclusions are as follows; 1) It is possible to reduction of the NOx emission by using alcohol and light oil blended fuels than that of light oil at any engine load conditions. 2) The emission concentrations of HC and CO increase with addition of ethanol under low load conditions. 3) The net thermal efficiency increases with addition of ethanol and propanol under high load conditions.
