摘要
Ammonia is an important water pollutant that has harmful effects on human health. Hence its elimination and reduction in water supplies to less than the set standard have always been considerable. Due to limited water resources, the importance of ammonia removal and recovery methods is increasing day by day. In recent years, the selection of appropriate methods for the removal of ammonia from drinking water has been significant in terms of treatment system stability, economic efficiency, and environmental friendliness. This chapter reviews the different methods of ammonia removal and recovery and compares their efficiency. The methods that are currently used in the process of removing ammonia from various types of wastewater are physical methods (air stripping, membrane technology), chemical approaches (breakpoint chlorination, electrochemical technology), and biological techniques (classical activated sludge, biological denitrification, microalgae treatment).
