摘要
This article represents an overview of a new approach in civil and seismic engineering sector, based on the concept used in the solid-state physics field which revealed the manipulation of the dynamic property of the band gap frequency created by “periodic materials/structure” in which the wave cannot propagate if its frequency exists within the range of the band gap frequency of the periodic structure. In fact, the aim of this paper is to propose solutions of periodic structures with a band gap frequency within the range of the main frequency of traffic vibration and earthquake. Herein the research progress of periodic structure in terms of governing equation, analysis of the dispersion curve, eigenvalue problem solving, and application is introduced. Then, the general results on the effect of the mechanical parameters are addressed on the basis of the parametric studies presented in the articles reviewed. Finally, we will provide some recommendations for future research to improve the research framework of periodic structures and develop innovative solutions for civil engineering.
