Communicative Competence, Communicative Approach and College English Teaching

Hymes is the first to use the term of communicative competence and after that this concept has attracted more attention of linguists and others. Communicative approach has exerted profound influence in our country. This essay introduces the theory of communicative competence, the characteristics of communicative approach and its application to college English teaching in China.
