To observe the curative effect of leukotriene receptor antagonist on bronchial asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Methods: Twenty patients with bronchial asthma and 20 with GOPD were studied. Accolate was administrated with the same dosage. The curative effect was determined according to the changes of leukotriene C4, eosinocyte, and PEF of pulmonary function before and after treatment. Results: The concentrations of LTC4 and EOS in plasma were higher and PEF of pulmonary function was lower than normal level in asthma group before treatment. The concentrations of LTC4 and EOS in plasma significantly decreased and the value of PEF significantly increased after treatment (P0.01). The levels of LTC4 and EOS in plasma were higher and PEF of pulmonary function was lower than normal level at attacking stage in COPD group before treatment. There was no significant change in LTC4 and EOS, and no significant increase in PEF after the treatment (P 0.05). There was a significant difference in LTC4 , EOS, and PEF between two groups before and after the treatment (P0.01). Conclusion: The curative effect of leukotriene receptor antagonist is different for the cause of different pathogenesis. Asthma is a complicated course involved by a serious of inflammatory cells and media. Leukotriene is one of the main media.
