Objective To observe the efficacy and complication of the intra-arterial superselective thrombolysis by urokinase for acute ischemic stroke. Methods 6 patients diagnosed of acute ischemic stroke within 4~12 h from onset were treated by intra-arterial superselective thrombolytic therapy by urokinase. Results Complete recanalization after thrombolysis were observed in 4 of 6 patients(66.7%) and part recanalization in 2 of th 6 patients(33.3%).the clinical outcome was evaluated at 14 days after thrombolysis that was 1 patient(16.7%) fully recovered, 3 (50%) in outstanding progress, 1 (16.7%) died. Conclusions Early-stage intra-arterial superselective thrombolysis by urokinase can apparently improve the rate of recanalization and clinical outcome. It is an effective and relatively safe method in treatment of acute ischemic stroke.
