Objective To observe the effect of peritoneum dialysis and hemodialysis on event-related potentials P300 in patients with receiving maintenance dialysis. Methods Seven-two end-stage renal disease(ESRD) patients with receiving maintenance dialysis were randomly divided into two groups:a peritoneum dialysis group(n=30),and a hemodialysis group(n=42).P300 latencies and amplitudes were detected before and after treatment for 1 year. Results Before treatment, there were no significant differences in P300 latencies and amplitudes between the peritoneum dialysis group [(397.6±35.9) ms,(8.3±1.57)μV]and the hemodialysis group[(405.3±46.7)ms,(7.9±1.43)μV].After 1 year of treatment,P300 latencies reduced and amplitudes increased in two groups, however,in peritoneum dialysis group P300 latencies reduced and amplitudes increased significantly(P0.01).Conclusion Both peritoneum dialysis and hemodialysis can improve the cognitive function in patients with receiving maintenance dialysis, the effect of peritoneum dialysis was better than that of hemodialysis.
