In this paper, the differences of structure and electrochemistry between HT LiCoO2 and LT LiCoO2 have been described briefly. A variety of synthetic methods of lithium cobaltate, such as high temperature solid state method, low temperature solid state method and several liquid phase technology have been reviewed and evaluated. The main factors, which affect the structure, morphologise and electrochemical performances of lithium cobaltate, have been discussed. These factors consist of used precursor,the rate of heating,reaction temperature,keeping time and the rate of cooling. The aspects of future research have been put forward, too.
