ObjectiveTo investigate the in vitro effects of alternol on cell proliferation and apoptosis of human hepatocellular carcinoma cells. MethodsHepG2 cells were treated with different concentrations of alternol. The inhibitory rate of cell proliferation was measured by MTT assay. Cell cycles and apoptosis were evaluated using flow cytometry.ResultsCompared to solvent control, the proliferation of HepG2 cells was inhibited byalternolinadoseandtimedependentmanner(P 0.05).After48htreatment,flowcytometryanalysisshowedthatalternoltreatmenthadresult edinaccumulationofcellsatG2 /Mphasesand inducedapoptosisofHepG2cells.ConclusionAlternolmaybeeffectiveforthetreatmentofhepato cellularcarcinomathroughitscellcyclearrestandapoptosisinductioneffects.
