1,1,2‐Triphenylethylenes with trifluoromethyl substituents

Abstract A number of 1,1,2‐triphenylethylenes bearing trifluoromethyl substituents in various positions have been synthesized and their oestrogenic activity investigated. It is shown that the introduction of trifluoromethyl groups decreases the oestrogenicity, this effect being more pronounced in the para derivatives than in the ortho and meta isomers. Possible explanations for this effect are discussed.
