Exploitation of a Very Strongly σ‐Donating SnII Ligand: Synthesis of a Homoleptic, Octahedral NiIV Complex

Encased in stannaborates: The synthesis of the homoleptic, octahedral MIV complexes [M(SnB11H11)6]8− (M= Ni, Pd, Pt) has been reported. Spectroscopic data, together with the square-planar structure obtained for the corresponding tetrakis-ligated NiII complex [Ni(SnB11H11)4]6−, provide ample evidence for the extremely strong σ-donor properties of the [SnB11H11]2− ligand.
