Master of ScienceIn order to meet the progressively stringent emission standards, the use of marine alternative fuels has been increasingly favoured by the shipping industry.Although liquefied natural gas (LNG) has been the favourite alternative fuel in the past few years, and this trend is expected to continue in the future, a growing number of studies and cases show that methanol, with its advantages of clean, environmental protection and high availability, has fully demonstrated its potential as a marine fuel in the future. However, methanol's own risk factors pose a huge threat to ships and their people. This dissertation analyses the risk of leakage in methanol fuel systems of methanol dual-fuel powered ships. The Bow-tie diagram model of methanol fuel system leakage is established, and it is transformed into a Bayesian network model according to the mapping rules, and the fuzzy probability of fuzzy evaluation and multi-level expert evaluation is used as the prior probability, to analysese the leakage risk of methanol fuel system. The results show that a considerable part of the leakage risk comes from human and management factors, and equipment corrosion will also bring certain risks. It brings some enlightenment to the safe operation and risk avoidance of methanol fuel powered ships, meanwhile summarize the safety recommendations based on the assessment results.Through risk identification and assessment of methanol-powered ships, combined with relevant supervision and inspection rules, summarize the key points of maritime supervision and inspection of methanol-powered ships.
