Effects of edaravone and early rehabilitation on acute cerebral infarction

Objective To investigate the effects of edaravone on acute cerebral infarction(ACI). Methods A randomized,controlled study was performed.One hundred and sixty patients,who had an onset of ACI within 48 hours,were allocated to edaravone group(n=60)or the control group(n=60)randomly.Before treatment and 30 days after treatment,the neurological deficits(NIHSS),Fugl-Meyer and Barthel index were evaluated. Results There were significant differences between edaravone group(3.71±2.43)and the control group(7.86±3.65).Thirty days after treatment the improvement of Fugl-Meyer and Barthel index was significant.The improvement of Edaravone group was more significant than that of the control group. Conclusions Edaravone is a new effective neuroprotective agent in treating ACI.
