Effect of rhubarb on tumor necrosis factor,IL-6 and nitric oxide in experimental hepatic necrosis

Objective:To observe the protective effects of rhubarb on hepatic necrosis induced by CCl4.Methods:The changes among liver histopathology and serum liver function,TNF-α,IL-6,NO in the rat hepatic necrosis induced by CCl4were studied after treatment with rhubarb.Results:Compared with those in control group,morphologic studies showed that hepatocytes injury in treatment group was ameliorated,the serumliver function,TNF-α,IL-6and NO in treatment group were significantly reduced(P0.05or0.01).Conclusion:These results indicate that rhubarb has protective effect on hepatic necrosis,and such protective effect may be related to the inhibition of TNF-α,IL-6and NO release.
