National Legislation and International Standards for Fire Detection and Protection Systems for Industrial Transformers and Substations of Industries Facilities

The safety at transformers, and electrical substations of the industrial facilities is an extremely important aspect of minimizing the plant shutdown periods as well as workers safety. In the event of fire at a substation or transformer there might be casualties even worse, fatalities. Besides, equipment damage could occur. Partial or even complete plant shutdown is required in such cases which means loss of production. Hence, it is critical to install integrated smoke/fire detection systems and Indoor/Outdoor fire fighting systems. In this paper, both national and international standards/regulations have been reviewed and presented in a concise manner.
