Purpose: Knee Osteoarthritis (KOA) is the most common form of arthritis typically characterized by cartilage degeneration, synovial inflammation, fibrosis and subchondral bone remodelling. The infrapatellar fat pad (IFP) is the largest FP within the knee, located posterior to the inferior pole of the patella, anterior to the tibia and between the anterior horns of the meniscus and femur. The mechanisms in which the IFP is specifically involved in the pathology of KOA are not well understood. Furthermore, the exact cellular populations that contribute to KOA pathogenic process remain to be fully characterized. This study aims to identify the distinct cellular populations within the IFP that may contribute to OA pathogenesis using single-nucleus RNA sequencing.
