New multifunctional nanoparticles with mesoporous cores and silver shells

The feasibility of preparing continuous silver shells of different thicknesses on mesoporous silica particles is demonstrated for the first time. The resulting composite nanoparticles with a tuned localized surface plasmon resonance can simultaneously be used as containers for a number of compounds, e.g., drugs for combined therapy of tumors.
