Special aspects of the transient process of rotor movement at contact with stator and scenarios of its development, including “rolling” of the rotor over the stator, are considered. Triggering events for “rolling” are investigated, the calculation formulae for its kinematic and power characteristics are obtained. Analytical solution of the problem received for the model with an absolutely rigid rotor and stator for absolutely rigid contact allowed analyzing the rolling event. An attempt to understand some events having taken place during trouble with the 300 MW turbine generator in the Kashirskaya power plant in 2002 is made on the basis of the proposed model.
