Apoptosis is the capacity of a cell to undergo programmed cell death, which involves many cellular biochemical e-vents. Mitochondria are the bioenergetic and metabolic center of eukaryotic cell. During apoptosis, many key events are related to mitochondria. The central roles for mitochondria as the orchestrators of apoptosis have been firmly established in recent years. This review summarizes the recent data on execution and regulation of mitochondrial apoptotic signals; mitochondrial response to apoptotic signals and loss of mitochondria functions during apoptosis.
