This is a continuation of a study and an analysis of thermochemical data of the rare earth compounds which may be formed when rare earths are added in the manufacture of steal and iron. Existing data on the oxides are critically evaluated, and the heats and free energies of formation are tabulated and graphed as functions of temperature. Formation heats and energies are estimated for rare earth oxysulfides; data are given for Gd/sub 2/O/sub 2/S, Ce/sub 2/O/su b 2/S, and Y/ sub 2/O/sub 2/S as functions of temperature. Available data for the other rare earth compounds are summarized; estimates are made for these containlng P, Bi, Cu, and Ag. (33 tables, 4 figures, 98 references) (DLC)
