PUMA (p53 up-regulated modulator of apoptosis) PUMA is a member of the BH-3-only group of Bcl-2 family protein,which plays a prominent role in promoting apoptosis.PUMA acts as an essential mediator of apoptosis via p53-dependent and p53-independent mechanisms.The function of PUMA has irrelevant to the status of p53,which suggests that PUMA can potentially be used as a new target for anticancer therapy.
