Equation-of-State Data of Solids from Shock Vaporization

A spectroscopic technique is introduced to measure the amount of vapor species appearing from shocked metals upon unloading into vacuum. The degree of vaporization is correlated with the shock wave entropy, from which follows the possibility to determine the equation of state at pressures above 200 kbar.
