Abstract ω‐Aminoalkylamino acid esters of the following formula were synthesized from diamines and methyl acrylate. Polycondensation at room temperature gave a highly crystalline oligo(amide amine), whereas an amorphous polymer was obtained by heating the monomer at elevated temperatures. The higher molecular weight polymer was obtained by thermal polycondensation of the crystalline oligomer. It was concluded that β‐fission of the chain partially occured by reversible M ICHAEL reaction in the thermal polymerization. Kinetics of the polycondensation were also studied.
