Exploration of CNC programming techniques for the 840Dsl system

As for the Siemens 840Dsl CNC system, this paper investigates the time required for manual programming and SHOPMILL automatic programming, as well as the machining efficiency of these two types of CNC programming based on the cases study of "slot machining workpiece" and "bump milling workpiece" . The experimental results show that for the same number of "slot machining workpiece", the time spent on programming of manual programme is about 4.1 times that of the SHOPMILL automatic programme, and the machining time using the latter programme is about 4 times that of the former. In the case of "bump milling workpiece", the programming time is almost the same for both programming methods, but the machining time for the SHOPMILL automatic programme is about 2.5 times that of the manual programme.
