The bridges built in these areas generally have the features with high pier and long span, the wind load on the main beams and piers will be great. Therefore, the wind load and its inner forces gradually become a major factor in controlling such bridge design, and is important to determine the design wind speed and the wind load. This paper analyzes and compares the differences of the transverse wind load calculation about long span continuous rigid frame bridges with tall piers in the General Code for Design of Highway Bridges and Culverts and the Wind-Resistent Design Specification for Highway Bridges and are compared by a numeric example. It provides a theoretical basis for the calculation and analysis of the wind stability design of the bridges in the mountainous area.On this basis, considering the existing studies,we analyz and determinie the design wind speed of the bridge by a numerical example. In the end, this paper proposes a method for calculating the design wind speed of the bridge according to the existing studies according to Culverts and the Wind-Resistent Design Specification for Highway Bridges.
