Chinese attach importance to silence in conversation,with idea of the very quietness goes before sound.However,in eyes of Americans,silence indicates lack of self-confidence.So paper attempts to analyze causes of communication obstacles from perspective of Chinese and American rhetorical and philosophical conflicts to make students achieve real benefits from intercultural communication.
