Influence of different period of keeping prone position after silicone oil filling operation for the prognosis of retinal detachment

Objective To investigate the different influence of period of keeping prone position after silicone oil filling operation. Methods A total of 80 patients with complicated retinal detachment, who had been performed pars plana vitrectomy and silicone oil tamponade, were divided into experimental group and control group on average. Patients kept prone position 5-9 h a day in the experimental group and more than or equal 10 h a day in the control group. The curative effects and adverse effects in the two groups were compared. Results The number of healing was 28 cases in the experimental group comparing with 27 cases in the control group with no significant difference (χ2=0.14, P>0.05). The rate of grade 3 palpebral edema in the experimental group (15.0%) was less than that of the control group (35.0%), and there was statistical difference(χ2=4.27, P<0.05). Conclusions Keeping prone position 5-9 h a day after silicone oil filling operation might be an efficient time for achieving the goal of treatment and reducing the adverse reaction.
