Forest resources and sustainable management

This chapter contains up-to-date information about the current state of global forest resources and their regional distribution, in terms of area and growing stock. We briefly discuss the ecosystem services provided by world’s forests and give an overview of deforestation rates, as well as the main causes of deforestation and forest degradation. We also give an outline of forest management approaches and shortly present issues of forest health and adaptation to global change.
