Telehealth

In this chapter we define telehealth, the technology used in telehealth to facilitate the transmission of information, and the methods for transmission. We discuss the main objectives for the use of telehealth, the applications for telehealth, and the technology used for these applications. Information on the various populations that are currently utilizing telehealth applications is presented. We describe a number of government supported telehealth programs that promote and fund telehealth projects, as well as current telehealth research studies. This chapter concludes with an examination of legal issues and financial issues, and current limitations that impact the use of telehealth.
